POLITICAL REPORTER: Erin Billups
Erin Billups is a reporter for YNN’s New York City sister station, NY1, covering state politics for Inside City Hall. Erin’s political stories are also seen frequently on Capital Tonight and on YNN.
Erin joined NY1 in November 2009, after covering New York State politics as Capital Tonight’s first dedicated reporter. She was forced to hit the ground running after news of the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal broke on her first day on the job. Since then, she has covered the ins and outs of state government from the budget process, to the Senate coup in the Summer of 2009, and the latest news on the campaign trail.
Prior to working on Capital Tonight, Erin was the morning reporter for YNN Albany. Before that, she reported in Elmira-Corning at the ABC affiliate WNEY-TV. While there, she covered a range of stories including major flooding in the Southern Tier, as well as breaking news events like the shootings of New York State Troopers Andrew Sperr and Sean Brown.
Erin also spent time in the Capital Region working for ABC affiliate WTEN News 10, and she had her first taste of broadcasting as an intern at YNN’s Albany station. She’s also covered many state government stories in the Capitol as an intern for the New York Network.
Originally from Hollis, Queens, Erin moved to the Capital Region to attend the University at Albany where she received her Bachelor of Arts, with a concentration in music and journalism.
