Senate GOP Touts Budget Restraint
Senate Republicans just released a report detailing their budget spending showing that they have trimmed their expenditures by more than $11 million in the past year, and by nearly $8 million in the past six months.
The release is part of a biannual report that provides line-by-line account of spending.
As you might remember, the Senate GOP blasted their Democratic counterparts for overspending by more than $13 million during their 2 year stint in the leadership – mostly on staffing. Since then, Republican leaders have been issuing these reports to tout their budget restraint.
“Under our leadership, the Senate is scrutinizing every expenditure to see if it’s justified and we’re doing more with less. Senate
Republicans have erased the multimillion dollar deficit we inherited from the Senate Democrats, and working with the Governor we’re stabilizing
the State’s finances and turning New York around,” Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos said.
“After two disastrous years of the Senate Democrats leading the Senate, New York State has turned the corner. Under the leadership of the Republican Senators, the Senate has found ways to operate much more efficiently, and to use fewer resources to accomplish the same
goals, resulting in substantial savings to the state,” said Senate Finance Chairman, John A. DeFrancisco.
Republicans say they have been able to keep costs down by reducing the chamber’s mailing expenses, closing regional offices, and renegotiating leases.
