The Senate Republican Campaign Committee is pointing to last month’s New York Observer piece as evidence that Democrats are disorganized heading into the pivotal 2012 election season.

The SRCC points out that “three top Democrat campaign consultants” criticized the conference in the Observer story, though only two are quoted by name.

In a news release on the committee’s website, the SRCC throws out a reference to Francesco Schettino, the Italian cruise ship captain who abandoned ship in a disaster that left 17 people dead (It’s not unusual now in politics, apparently, to compare someone to Schettino. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus made a similar allusion, but compared him to President Obama).

Republicans also gleefully point out that four-member Independent Democratic Conference “bolted” last year. The IDC has actually worked rather closely with the Republican conference, and the remaining Democratic conference doesn’t even consider them true Democrats though Sens. Jeff Klein, Diane Savino, David Valesky and David Carlucci haven’t changed their enrollment.

Expect to see more little skirmishes like these in coming weeks as the debate over redistricting and the March 12 special e intensifies

Here’s the release:

It’s a good sign that you’re about to be sunk when the officers start jumping ship.

Just ask Francesco Schettino, the chicken-hearted captain of that inverted Italian cruise ship.

Closer to home, ask the architects of the NY Senate Democrats’ brief reign of power.

Already abandoned by four of their more moderate members, who bolted the caucus last year to form an “independent” bloc, Senate Democrats are now being abandoned by their behind-the-scenes strategists, too.

Like the one, two, three top Democrat campaign consultants, who see that the Senate Democrats’ record of infighting, dysfunction, and hyperinflated taxing and spending has effectively erased any path to victory for these hapless wannabes.

“They did not do the job when they controlled the chamber,” said Hank Sheinkopf. “They were not perceived as being in charge.”

“The fact that they couldn’t hold it when they had it is an unbelievable sin,” agreed Scott Levenson.

“Every week is a reminder of how weak and ineffective these guys are,” says another party advisor.
