One In Five Overriding Cap
The most recent property tax cap information from the state comptroller’s office shows 20 percent of local governments are choosing to override the limit on levy increases.
The 2 percent cap can be overriden by a 60 percent majority local taxing distrct’s elected board.
Forty-one percent of all local governments are yet to override the cap.
Still, the 20 percent trend appears to be hold steady. For instance, most counties have already submitted their budgets to the state, with 12 governments (21 percent) choosing the override option.
