GOP Slams Gillibrand Over PIPA
The NYS GOP, which has made challenging Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand a top priority this year, has posted a new video on its Website that slams the Democratic junior senator for her co-sponsorship of PIPA (AKA the Protect IP Act).
Chairman Ed Cox accused Gillibrand of flip-flopping – something he says she does a lot – on the bill, for which she pulled her support last Friday after an on-line revolt led to its derailment in the Senate.
“There are only three possible explanations for Senator Gillibrand’s sponsorship of this anti-New York legislation,” Cox said.
“One: Ms. Gillibrand didn’t read the legislation before co-sponsoring it. Two: She read the bill and didn’t understand it. Or three: She understood the bill, but decided to support Hollywood’s interests over the interests of her own state.”
Jimmy Vielkind noted on CapCon that the Republicans already know the answer to one of the questions they pose in this video. According to the GOP, Gillibrand accepted more than $610,000 in campaign contributions from the Hollywood/entertainment industry last year.
Over the weekend, the would-be Gillibrand challenger who has been in the running longest, Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos, received a mini boost when he was endorsed by his hometown GOP county chairman, Joe Mondello.
Also, TheLadders.com founder Marc Cenedella, who has been traveling the state and impressing GOP leaders as he mulls a run against Gillibrand, sustained a blow this morning when the NYT reported a blog that purported to be his personal site featured some risque posts about sex, drugs and women. The site was disabled after the paper started asking questions about it.
