Cenedella Counterpunches On PIPA (Updated)
A day after he faced questions over frat-boy mentality posts on a blog carrying his name, businessman and potential Senate candidate Marc Cenedella is knocking Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for her turn around on the now tabled anti-piracy bill PIPA.
“It is unfortunate to see our junior New York Senator totally immersed in Washington-style politics,” Cenedella said in a statement. “If, indeed, she took more than $600,000 in Hollywood cash and then did its bidding over the interests of her own constituents, she does not belong in public office. There are unanswered questions out there about whether she even read the bill before putting her name on it.”
Cenedella points to the $610,000 Gillibrand received from “Hollywood moguls” which he said led to her favoring contributors in California over the growing tech industry in New York.
Cenedella is the founder of the jobs-search site theladders.com.
He’s an attractive candidate for the GOP, who is looking for a wealthy outsider to challenge Gillibrand. Cenedella has retained Republican message man Bill O’Reilly of Nicholas and Lence and has traveled around the state to build support for a potential candidacy.
Gillibrand was quick to pounce on the blog posts, which Cenedella’s camp has said are from a test site.
The only declared Republican candidate in the race is George Maragos, the Nassau County comptroller, who actually attacked Gillibrand over this same issue last week.
Update: Gillibrand spokesman Glen Caplin responds.
“Marc Cenedella is grasping at straws to change the conversation from his offensive blog posts that are unfit for any office. The question isn’t about the difference of opinion they have with people like the Republican dean Peter King on the substance of legislation intended to protect New York jobs. This question is about Marc Cenedella’s character and his lack of judgment as a CEO. There were almost as many excuses yesterday as there are offensive blog posts about sex and drugs by Cenedella. The question is will Ed Cox continue to stand by a potential candidate who won’t deny he’s responsible for such sexist and offensive material?”
