IOGA’s Holbrook Responds to Fracking Critics

Hey, I don’t care. I don’t live on the Marcellus Shale. Frack away if you think that will be your salvation. I’ll have moved far away from this state before the drilling starts. And you, Janey, can choke on your toxic chemical soup as you trust the industry.

Thank you Mr. Holbrook for pointing out Chip’s lack of real experience in the oil and gas industry.  He said that he was an investor in onshore and offshore drilling in the gulf of Mexico – anyone can buy stocks and be an investor, like I said before, he could have been a janitor for a gas company, that doesn’t mean he has any knowledge of drilling a well.  And as he has proven over and over, he has NO knowledge of the regulations/ taxes, of the gas industry in NY and NOT even of his home state of TX.  He is a carpetbagger, not a local resident. His 3rd or 4th home happens to be in Cooperstown, and I would hope that the viewers would begin to question what EXACTLY Mr. Northrup’s alterior motives and agenda really are – Check out his background – real estate company.

Chip Northrup is simply one person out of MANY with an opinion about hydrofracking. You pro-fracking folks act like he’s the most powerful man on the face of the earth. More powerful than Obama, than Cuomo, than even Superman. Get a grip, will ‘ya?

These business guys are too much. Mr.Norse is no more abused by the property taxes in NYS as a driller than any other resident. We’re ALL paying property taxes and hate having to do it.

That being said, property taxes are a completely separate issue from a severance tax — which New York does NOT have and ALL other states with drilling DO…except  for screwed up Pennsylvania. People like Mr. Norse who have been drilling vertical wells have been getting a bargain for many years, IMHO.

If hydrofracking is allowed into New York, Mr. Norse and his compadres know full well that they will be paying the STATE a hefty severance tax (or something similar)…just like they would have to pay in Texas, Colorado etc.Deal with it. There’s no such thing as a free lunch, especially when dealing with something as risky as hydrofracking.

downright illogical putting a stop to NG drilling upstate – you guys are pretty much broke… I get all those people that wants their retirement land free from industry, but for all you other folks to vote against this based on claims spun out of proportion – I absolutely don’t get it,   lift your heads every-once in a while and put things in perspective, as it seems that the anti movement has lost most.. e.g. the “scary” millions of gallons on water used in HF – seems a whole lot if one compare it to milk cartons, compare it to the actual water supply, or even the amount you spend on watering your lawns it might make you feel a whole lot different about the issue. you guys have a very real chance to prosper – and –  be provided with an opportunity to actually do something for your communities – opinions and talk will only bring you so much – eventually the lack of resources will catch up with you upstate locals. deep inside I guess a lot of you people have realized you’ve been fooled by the fanatics and the retired city cats – and now it would be shameful to turn on the issue – well here’s some humble advice for ya – its never too late to turn

Lets talk about taxes… or increasing permit application fees- some way for the broke state to receive income. At this point only locals benefit.. and God forbid locals benefit!

Science, Truth and Proven Technology must prevail – for the benefit of all NY residents.   The environmental issues have been mitigated to near zero.   Check out Gasfrac Energy…they have a proven technology using PetroGel that ELIMINATES the use of water (hydro) fracking requirements.    Permits for NG access in NY will create thousands of jobs, millions in permit fees and billions in taxes.   With the environmental issues eliminated and the need for jobs, revenues and energy is it really that difficult of a decision?   Come on New York…brighten up!   Let’s get this going.

Mr. BusterBrown  - your reply, as weak and not very well thought out as it was, did not  on any level put forth a worthy argument supporting the “antis” position.   So, “dude”, you may want to do some research (re: Gasfrac) and try to wrap your brain around the science, technology and TRUTH that is so desperately needed.   If you have any compassion for America, her future and future generations, please take a moment from mindless spewing and really try hard to grasp the facts.   If you need help, please start with the reference above.   Thanks and let’s get this problem solved together for the betterment of our country and future generations.   Thank You.

Well, Buster, as long as people like you think Josh Fox is some kind of a scientist, there is only one answer to your question, REAL scientists, that have degrees in the science involved in natural gas drilling, and environmental toxicology, such as Ms. Blake, ALL believe that it can be done, and IS done safely everyday!!! The science shows that there has NEVER been a single incident of water well contaimination by frack fluids.

I hit like by mistake, so don’t let it go to your head.

Unsurprisingly, there’s are numerous flaws in your logic. For starters, when it comes to voting in elections, everyone gets ONE vote regardless of how much property they own…and even if they don’t own property AT ALL. You aren’t entitled to any more say in the hydrofracking debate, Joe, than someone who has a 1/4 acre lot. Deal with it.

Furthermore, aquifers and other water sources are COMMUNAL property. If YOU pollute an aquifer, Joe, by allowing hydrofracking on your land, you are screwing everyone else out of the use of the aquifer. That’s true whether they live on a quarter acre lot, 1/2 acre lot or whatever. Hence, we have have all kinds of water protection/regulation laws at the federal and state level. Those laws and a bunch of NEW ones created especially for hydrofracking will apply to ALL landowners, regardless of how much property they own. If big landowners don’t like that, it’s too darn bad.

I’d say it’s more the fear of tthe costs of hydrofracking outweighing the perceived benefit. The whole discussion seems over-wrought with emotion to me.

Hi James! I just wanted you to know how happy I am that the anti’s lends so much credence to your “expert” opinions. No wonder you refer to yourself as “former” insider in the oil and gas industry. Based on what you present of your expert knowledge, they simply couldnt use you. I am furthermore so very very glad that the anti’s put forth your arguments in such a wide varitey of places, never really providing any useful to the conversation. Obviously the DEC sees through all this. As most of your arguments are so easily debunked, and the relevance of your self-stated credentials to the issue of drilling in new york is limited, you serve as the living breathing illustration of the nonsensical turn this debate has taken. Hope you’ve enjoyed your petty fame, serving your role (and earning a living) as a substanceless professional activist.
