Catholic Conference on License Plate Controversy
For the past decade, the pro-life Alliance Defense Fund has tried to get the state to issue custom license plates with the phrase “Choose Life” as a fundraiser for adoption organizations. But the DMV declared the design offensive, and refused to allow the plates. Now, a federal court has ruled that this is a free speech issue and the DMV can’t block the plates. And Kathleen Gallagher, the director of pro-life activities for the New York State Catholic Conference, says it’s about time.
