Catholic Conference on License Plate Controversy

What is “pro-life”? A lovely sentiment in its broadest sense, but for the Catholic Conference, which is supposed to be prohibited from lobbying or political/legislative activity in order to remain a tax-exempt organization (that’s a laugh!) is it confined solely to the protection of a gaggle of tiny cells buried deep inside the female reproductive organs? What are their thoughts on executing murderers? Fighting wars? Letting children around the world die for lack of food or medical care? Hunting? Fishing? Ridding one’s home of mice, rats, raccoons or insects? Eating meat? Eating vegetables, for that matter? Only the Jains took those two words to their logical extension and refused to take any life from the universe. One could argue that assuming the self-righteous mantle of “pro-life” without adopting the absolutist view of the Jains is pure hypocrisy.

Ahhh, but I’m not arguing biology, 11201.

Am so pleased that the authors of the first three responses weren’t considered a blob of cells, to be easily disposed of at first breath of life at conception.

In an alternate universe, they were.

What??  Just because a mother of two adopted children wants to encourage others to consider adoption for unwanted pregnancies we are in a discussion about meat eaters, mice, and absolutist views?  What is wrong IronMike?  Making a mountain….

Hit “Like” by mistake instead of “Reply”. Get real. The agenda is much broader than “a mother of two adopted children”. You have a religious organization attempting to use the State to propagate its views officially through license plates, like Florida and many other Bible Belt states are doing. How dare they get a tax exemption for blatantly political activity? Licenses should be absolutely restricted to the name of the State and the motto (“The Empire State”) like it was in the olden days. Save the causes and slogans, left and right, for bumper stickers.

It isn’t about “considering adoption”. It is about forcing women who don’t want to be pregnant to grow a child and birth it against their wishes. Given that 50% of pregnancies in the US are C-section deliveries, you are also forcing women to have unwanted major abdominal surgery half the time. You confuse the outcome with the process.
