The Tappan Zee Bridge, which connects Westchester and Rockland Counties, has been in need of replacement or serious upgrade for decades. And with 130,000 to 150,000 vehicles crossing the bridge each day, officials do not want to see the bridge shut down. But there is no easy fix. Estimates for the project run several billion dollars. Concern over the bridge has now reached the White House, with President Obama expediting the federal review process for the project. Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says that’s good news- but it does not mean the problem is solved.
