Jim Alesi, Gay Icon

I give credit where credit is due. Senator Alesi will soon get to take a victory lap. He’s earned it. Gay folks are thankful for his support. It’s been invaluable.

It imagine the senator feels good about being on the right side of history, too. Other Republican senators should get on board. It’s not often that you get to be part of a major historical event. Senators get to choose between being LBJ or George Wallace. Choose wisely.

Is Alesi a homosexual?  Is this another case — as occurred recently in California — where a closeted homosexual acts on his private interests and we’re not allowed to question his motivation?

You neglected to mention that U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision was reviewed by another court AND UPHELD.

Explain to me, David, how (1) a GAY judge sitting on a case involving GAY
versus straight interests (according to you) is IMPROPER, but (2) a STRAIGHT judge sitting on the exact same case (still involving gay versus STRAIGHT interests) is totally PROPER? It defies logic.

Gay judge’s California same-sex marriage ruling upheld

U.S. judge’s gay relationship is no basis for tossing out his decision
overturning California’s same-sex marriage ban, another federal judge
ruled on Tuesday.

Doing otherwise would send a
message that minority judges could not rule in civil rights cases, ruled
Chief U.S. District Judge James Ware, who upheld the decision to
overturn California’s gay marriage ban.

In
pointed language, Ware slapped down the attempt to throw out his gay
former colleague’s decision as an attack on standards of judicial
impartiality, saying it ignored the idea that protecting the rights of
minorities benefits all…

[What demographic makes up the majority?  Hint is is straight, Christian conservatively minded folks.]

Open your tiny mind, bigot. There are more straight, equality-minded, people than there are gays. They are just as much part of the team as everyone because they value equality under the law. 

Alesi has no chance at reelection in 2012 and knows it, but not because of gay marriage.  Google “Alesi ladder accident” and you’ll see why.  He sued the owner of a home under construction after he tried climbing a ladder, in business shoes, while drunk, in the winter, then fell and broke his leg.  And he blamed the construction company for leaving the ladder there (imagine…a ladder at a construction site…how negligent) and the owner (imagine…a home under construction with an open door).  It has gotten no press from the pro-gay marriage press like Liz Benjamin (so much for YNN being a news organization) who has been pushing the gay marriage issue relentlessly, but in Rochester you could pick a name from the phone book and they’d beat Alesi in 2012.

You’re mistaken Barban. I only read Liz for Albany news. I learned about the ladder from this column.

you cite President Obama as a reason to avoid going on the record. The voters
of Watertown want to know who are you and what you represent as regards ‘Same
Sex Marriage? You continue to hide behind President Obama’s position. Mayor
Graham you stated: “As is always done in politics, you fudge your stand in
order to achieve the greater good of getting elected. Happens all the time  in politics.”  It sounds like you’re ducking for cover, on an
issue that is number one right now in NYS politics, and using the lamest of
excuses, ‘Obama did it and it was politically smart of him to do it, as it
would be for all politicians.’

Is it smart
for you Mayor – what are you all about after reading and listening to you on
your radio show ‘Hotline’ I get the feeling you’re a shadow. Can you please go
on the record about what -’Mayor Graham’ thinks about being Gay, Gay Marriage,
and what you’re NOT doing to advocate for, ‘Same Sex Marriage?’ Gov. Cuomo is
acting like a real ‘Progressive’ and is ADVOCATING for ‘Same Sex Marriage’
while you ‘Shadow Dance’ with the President. 
Gov. Cuomo is pushing legislation to bring about equality and I feel
people in leadership positions should be ashamed of themselves if they’re
hiding out. The leadership class is needed to set an example concerning who and
what they stand for at this time. Advocates for social justice can’t hide during
the battle to win equal rights for their fellow Americans without seeming
insincere to the voters. President Obama, pick another dance to dance to, but
for the good of people like myself who advocate for you, at the very least pick
another partner to dance with please.   Perhaps
a dance that sounds out a ‘Progressive’ melody and a soulful message of freedom
and equality.

Seriously David, how would one “know” unless you were the partner? A wide stance?

Unfortunately Alesi has confused behavior, and specifically sexual behavior, with actual defined groups of people. People deserve equal rights, but behaviors don’t.   As hard as they might try, homosexuals do not constitute a valid minority group. They are a wide variety of people from many different races who happen to enjoy sex with their own sex. When we start assigning rights, and even special rights, to behaviors we are starting down a slippery slope. Who is next? I’m sure a person who prefers sex with a goat think he was “born that way” Was he really? Or is that just the first thing he likes to believe so it won’t make him morally accountable for seeking out goats to have sex with? If he was born that way after all he can’t help it right? Does that give him a right to marriage equality with a goat? Conversely, would a person who considers sex with a goat immoral be a “bigot” because his religion ( the basis for the founding of our country) refers to goat lovers as immoral? Well although some consider homosexual behavior as morally acceptable, most people still don’t. Also as hard as the pro-homosexual lobby might wish, they will never be able to remove the fact that there is and always will be a moral question associated with practicing homosexuality. There is no moral question associated with being black, or what have you in terms of true minority groups, and there is no moral question concerning marriage between a man and a woman. We should not be the ultimate moral judge assigning a stamp of approval to something that has and always will have a serious moral question associated with it. Every major religion of the world considers the practice of homosexuality immoral. It is not for Senator Alesi to independently decide for himself that all these religions are wrong and the practice is inborn and gays are equal to a valid minority group and so he should allow them special rights. He is a fool and and arrogantly unwise to have caved in to this preposterous effort to equate homosexual activity with the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.
