  I met Hochul at the Democratic Convention . She seemed to be a real woman’s woman. I think 11201 and Buster will know what I mean. I know we addressed it before because many more people read this blog than post but I would be interested in hearing from other women who read. Even if you just said “Hello” – I feel like sometimes the cranky feminist contingent is under represented although we’ve got Liz so maybe that’s all we need.

 I love how the news — like the Democrat party as a whole — says, the Ryan plan to save Medicare is “not the right approach”, but then offers nothing in the way of an approach of its own.  READ AGAIN, FOLKS: MEDICARE WILL BE BANKRUPT IN JUST 13 YEARS.

The News and the Democrats are kind of like the guy standing on the street corner watching a five alarm fire and doing nothing but  criticize the fire department for fighting the fire.  SHUT UP AND GRAB A BUCKET, MAN!

 I’m a man but I’m cranky and support choice, equal pay, and more women representing us at the state and federal levels of government.  Can I be a feminist, too?

If cutting subsidies to the oil companies is, as the Repubs say, raising taxes on the oil companies, why isn’t cutting subsidies for senior citizen health care raising taxes on senior citizens?

You sure can and I’d even rustle you up back in the day.

You are being conned or are trying to con everyone else. 

The Medicare Trust Fund only has to do with the hospitalization payments. All of the rest is paid for by premiums of those on Medicare, their co-pays and deductibles and other costs they pay. The difference between the premiums paid and the actual costs is paid by the government now. 

So the “running out of funds” — which are stressed right now because of high unemployment would not touch the basic care. A premium could be put into place which cover those expenses for hospitalization. 

Ryan’s plan does nothing to FIX the problems with Medicare of which the rising costs is most prominent. 
Ryan’s plan just shifts all these costs to the Seniors with the hope something magic will happen to ?? make things all right.

He relies on the magic of the market which has failed so far on a much larger, more open population. 

Ryan claims that his plan just makes Medicare like the privatized Medicare Advantage plans. What he doesn’t say is that those plans bill Medicare 14% to 18% MORE than the regular Medicare and all of them limit the person to going to or using the providers on their panel. In other words your choice of doctors will be limited — or if you like your doctor, your choice of insurance plan would be limited.

I have regular Medicare and can see anyone I want. I wouldn’t go back to a private plan.

Meanwhile, the new law, the PPACA, that Republicans want to repeal, has a  lot of programs that will reduce costs while increasing the quality for Medicare patients. The CEO of one Florida hospital chain was on Nightly Business Report and was talking about changes they had been making in anticipation of the law kicking in in 2014. They were working on improving quality of care and he said he found that they had cut costs. Imagine that, they are cutting the costs of hospitalization already. He foresees more from other changes they are putting in place.

That is how the costs will be driven down. And while the laws requirements only controls for Medicare patients, the effects will be felt for all patients. The actual cost reductions of the health care given will reduce Medicare’s expenditures and the cost for those with private insurance.

But Ryan wants to repeal the new Health Care Law and his vouchers would be based on the lower non-private Medicare cost leaving seniors really up a creek. Ryan has never talked with any insurer as to what they would charge for a guaranteed issue policy for people over 65 — or 70 or 75 or over 85 or over 95 …  Medicare doesn’t change its premiums based on age. 

Few seniors could afford private insurance even with a voucher unless they were in the top 5% of incomes.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, Doberman.  First, if you’re already on Medicare, you’re not even part of discussion. You’re good to go until you die. Its MY genreration that is in imminent risk of bankruptcy when WE retire and we know Medicare won’t be there if things continue as they are.

You think Obamacare will lead to cost control?  Sure it will….by denying services.  Why not allow insurance companies to compete across state lines?  Why not allow patients to have a stake in controlling costs by shopping for services, the same as they do for anything else?

Here’s how Medicare spending managed from Washington works: years ago, my father was having trouble standing from a chair after sitting for a while.  The struggele and stress to stand from a chair risked a stroke.  His geriatrician suggested an assisted-lift chair; a mechanized easy-chair where the seat boosted the person sitting in it to their feet.  He gave us some “official” Medicare suppliers of such chairs, that started at over $1,200, but it would take them four months to deliver it.  During that time, my Dad would be at risk of stroke.

I went on the internet.  I found the EXACT same chair that Uncle Sam was buying for $1,400 for $325, including delivery, if I bought it myself with a credit card. It was delivered within 96 hours. My Dad continued to live independently for a number of years thereafter and never had a problem with his assisted-lift chair.

Don’t tell me how “great” Medicare is.  Medicare is a government-sponsored Ponzi scheme that wastes money so fast the Treasury can’t print it fast enough by continuing the notion that its there “for seniors”. Its there for profiteers.

I want it saved, but first, I want it FIXED!!! 

As the article you reference cite, NOBODY has heard of the “Progressive Caucus Budget”.  That’s because YOUR president, YOUR congressional leadership and Washington Democrat insider Kathy Hochul have said NOTHING about how they would resolve the Medicare crisis. (YOUR president didn’t even raise it in his first budget message,earlier this year.)  As usual, they’ve taken the cheap and easy way out: demagogue Medicare; scare old people, and demonize fiscally responsible Republicans.  

Par for the course.  

Yes, we should all follow standard Democrat party philosophy:  ALL money belongs to the GOVERNMENT, except what little amounts the people in Washington are willing to allow us peans to have for basic survival, for which we should be most and eternally grateful.

After all, as their policies clearly show, in the Democrat mindset, PEOPLE exist to SERVE GOVERNMENT, not vice-versa.

That is not a cause of a stroke. Strokes are caused by blood clotting generally from blood pooling in the veins as a result of inactivity. Sitting in the chair increased his risk of a stroke, not getting out of it.
