Cuomo Confirmation No. 2: State Police Spt. D’Amico
Gov. Andrew Cuomo today saw his second administration appointee unanimously confirmed by the GOP-controlled state Senate, which gave its approval to newly-minted Superintendent of State Police Joseph D’Amico.
“Superintendent D’Amico is exactly who we need at the helm of the New York State Police,” Cuomo said in a press release.
“Superintendent D’Amico is a consummate professional with an impeccable reputation who brings decades of hands-on law enforcement and management experience to the force. He has devoted his entire career to protecting the people of the State of New York and will lead the Division of State of Police with honor and dignity.”
“I thank and commend Senators Nozzolio and DeFrancisco and their respective committees for their thorough review of this nomination, as well as the entire Senate for their swift confirmation vote.”
Last week, the Senate unanimously confirmed state Health Commissioner Nirav Shah, who joined me that evening for a CapTon interview.
D’Amico served as chief investigator in Cuomo’s AG office, where he oversaw and coordinated the efforts of 300 criminal and civil investigators statewide in the Organized Crime Task Force, the Auto Insurance Fraud Unit, the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Investigations Bureau.
Prior to that, D’Amico had a 27-year career with the NYPD, where he served in many patrol and investigative assignments in the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens, ultimately rising to the rank of deputy chief.
