The Senate Democrats are trying to turn the tables on the Republicans, who have been lambasting their opponents – incumbents and challengers alike – in ads that seek to tie them to the AEG scandal and accusing them of raising both taxes and spending.

The Democrats are firing back with this spot, made by Jimmy Siegel:

“For 43 years, Senate Republicans raised your taxes, killed our jobs and lined their pockets. From 1993 to 2007, they raised taxes 520 times and we lost 408,000 jobs. They gave Wall Street billions in tax breaks and their leader was convicted on federal corruption charges.”

“And even when we voted for change two years ago, Republicans tried to steal back the Senate, shutting down Albany for a month. Now they promise us they’re different? As their Wall Street buddies would say: (Flash to picture of the Wall Street bull sculpture).”

Senate Democratic spokesman Austin Shafran sent a statement slamming the Republicans for being the “party of Joe Bruno” and “led by the son-in-law of President Nixon and the ‘Dean of dysfunction’, which I think is a reference to Senate Minority Leader Dean Skelos.

UPDATE: RSCC spokesman Scott Reif sent a response that appears after the jump.

“Senate Democrats are desperate to get voters to pay attention to something other than the breathtaking corruption and criminal activity that exists within their own conference, after the State Inspector General turned over the findings of his cash for casinos investigation to the U.S. Attorney’s Office so Democrats could be prosecuted for wrongdoing.,” said Reif.

“Will Senators Smith, Sampson and Espada – - who are all under state or federal investigation – actually put up the money to run this ad or will they horde what cash they have left for their legal defense funds?”

“Voters are smart enough to know that the corrupt Senate Democrats won’t be able to effectively lead this State next year since they will be spending most of their time in jury rooms testifying against one another.”
