I spoke earlier today with Sen. Eric Schneiderman, the Democratic AG nominee, who was in Rochester on a post-primary upstate swing during which he talked about protecting New Yorkers from mortgage fraud and slammed his GOP opponent, Staten Island DA DAn Donovan, for being too pro-Wall Street.

An enitre week has now passed since Schneiderman’s victory over his four Democratic primary opponents, and the man he’s seeking to replace, AG Andrew Cuomo, has yet to formally offer the Manhattan lawmaker his blessing.

By this time in 2006, the Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner, then-AG Eliot Spitzer, had already long since endorsed Cuomo, even though Cuomo was not his first choice to win the primary – much like Schneiderman wasn’t Cuomo’s top pick.

I asked Schneiderman what the hold-up is, and he replied.

“Well, you know, we’re talking, and you gotta allow us a little opportunity to create some drama. But, no, we are in contact. And I have spoken with him, and I look forward to working with him in this campaign and I look forward to working with him when he’s the governor and I’m the attorney general.”
