GOP gubernatorial nominee Carl Paladino came out swinging on CapTon last night in response to an attack ad from his Democratic opponent, Andrew Cuomo, and warned the AG – whom he called “Andy” – not to “jump to any conclusions” regarding the race.

Paladino praised his pollster, Tony Fabrizio, and said his assessment of the head-to-head match-up finds just 10 percentage points separate the Buffalo businessman and the attorney general.

That’s more than the Q poll’s 6 points, a lot less than Siena’s 33 and in keeping with SurveyUSA. We’re still waiting on what Marist has to say on the subject.

Paladino, who has kept a rather low profile of late (for him, anyway) while he dials for dollars and plots his next move (according to campaign manager Michael Caputo), engaged in a little mockery of Cuomo, insisting the once-comfortable frontrunner has been rocked back on his heels and showing the strain.

“I saw his picture standing next to Bloomberg at the announcement yesterday of Bloomberg’s support. And he looked, he had that glazed over look like a deer in the headlights,” Paladino told me.

“So, I don’t want him to get himself sick over this stuff. Take it easy, Andy. Take a rest.”

“…It’s time for you to come out and speak. I’ve asked you for a series of debates. I’m willing to debate you every day for the next 42 days before the election. But if you’re just going to sit there and hide and keep sending surrogates out, we’re just going to keep bloodying them up and sending them back to you. Grow up.”

In the full interview, which you can view here, Paladino channeled former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, calling Cuomo a “nasty, nasty man.”
