Gubernatorial hopeful Rick Lazio insisted today that after the bitter primary battle between himself and Carl Paladino is over, Republicans and Conservatives will “come together” as one big happy family with a common goal: Defeating the Democratic frontrunner, AG Andrew Cuomo.

Never mind the fact that Paladino has refused to say he’ll back Lazio if he loses next Tuesday and also changed his mind about running in the November general election on his independent Taxpayers Party line.

(Remember that Paladino initially said he wouldn’t stay in and be a spoiler, but then amended that to leave his options open, saying he had been urged to do so by supporters in the Tea Party movement).

“I have no doubt in my mind that once the primary is over, that people who support both candidacies will come together, because I think there is common opposition here,” Lazio said while stumping in Erie County earlier today.

“It’s not the enemy, it’s the opposition. I don’t think that Andrew Cuomo has any of that shared vision. He has no growth agenda, whatsoever. He’s been part of an Albany for 30 years that’s spending too much and taxing too much, and sending jobs away from New York.”

“And I think people understand that this strategy has chased people and jobs and businesses that don’t want anymore of that. That’s what Andrew Cuomo represents. That’s the status quo.”
