In the now too close to call contest in the 23rd Congressional district GOP primary, Doug Hoffman is reminding everyone that this race is not over.

“This is still a fluid race,” said Hoffman. “Thousands of absentee and military ballots remain to be counted. There is no clear victor and I would be doing a disservice to my supporters, men and women in uniform and the voters if I did not wait for all votes to be properly counted.”

The Associated Press called the race for Doheny just before midnight based on results showing the Watertown business man with a nearly 17-hundred vote lead over Hoffman.

An apparent clerical error at the AP inverted the candidates numbers in Franklin county and overstated them in another county.

Now, the Doheny lead has dwindled to just 612 votes. Still to be counted, are votes in five Oneida County precincts, plus more than 17-hundred absentee ballots district wide. But, Despite the discrepancy, Doheny appears to be content with the results.

“What’s gonna happen here for the next 7 weeks is very simple, we’re gonna go out doing the same things day after day after day,” said Doheny.

“We’re gonna talk about how we’re gonna go ahead create economic opportunity in the 23rd district. We’re gonna talk my opponents record. How he’s wrong on health care. He’s wrong on the stimulus, he’s wrong on the bailouts and he needs to be sent back to Plattsburgh.”
