Two years ago, same sex marriage advocates rallied behind Senate Democrats, donating nearly a million dollars to their campaign coffers – in hopes that a Democratic majority would finally lead to the legalization of same sex marriage.

In the end, Democrats came to power, and after much pressure, brought the issue to the floor last December. But the measure was voted down 38 to 24 – with 8 Democrats saying no to the issue. Now, marriage equality advocates are once again gearing up for the election season. And this time, they are less focused on helping Democrats stay in power – and more focused on making sure they get candidates they support into office. Heading up that push is Ross Levi, the Executive Director of the Empire State Pride Agenda, the state’s largest gay rights advocate.
