Diaz Sr. To Host Paladino
Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr.’s office released a letter to AG Andrew Cuomo this morning, inviting him to meet with local ministers and community leaders to discuss “issues that matter to us in The Bronx.”
In a masterful bit of political passive aggressiveness, Diaz Sr. notes that Cuomo declined his invite to attend the annual Ministers Banquet on April 17. (Subtext: Hello? You’re ignoring me. Stop that).
And for a little extra twist, Diaz Sr. informs the Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner that one of his would-be Republican opponents, Carl Paladino – supposedly Cuomo’s preferred general election opponent – has already agreed to chat with the senator’s group on Aug. 27. (Diaz Sr. says it’s this coming Thursday, but my calendar says that’s a Friday).
Recall that the senator isn’t exactly a Cuomo fan. He criticized the AG for picking Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy as his LG (Diaz Sr. had been hoping for someone of color, preferably Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown). He also is a big supporter of Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada Jr., whom Cuomo has targeted.
