NOW-NYS Criticizes Obama Health Care Reform
It was the most heated debate on Capitol Hill in years, maybe decades. And when the dust settled, Democrats in Congress had pushed through a comprehensive, but controversial health care reform bill.
Conservatives panned it as being too expensive. While liberals suggested it doesn’t go far enough to provide coverage to all Americans. But, arguably the most controversial part of the plan was abortion. Some conservative Democrats refused to vote for the bill if it included federal funding for abortions.
In the end, the plan passed, but without many of the protections women right’s advocates have been fighting for. NOW-NYS President Marcia Pappas, who says President Obama’s actions have allowed a – quote – “all-out attack on women’s reproductive rights.”
