Gillibrand: Wall Street Critic Uninformed
YNN’s Bill Carey caught up with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand earlier today during a Syracuse stop on her upstate swing and asked her to respond to a Politico story in which a Wall Street executive slammed the Democratic lawmaker for failure to sufficiently defend the financial industry during the regulatory reform debate.
The unnamed executive said Gillibrand’s “chutzpah just has no bounds,” adding:
“People like her who didn’t stand up for us at all during the debate are certainly going to feel some pushback.”
Gillibrand’s office did not respond to Politico’s requests for comment. But the senator told Carey she would be “happy” to speak to the anonymous source – if only she knew his identity – and also suggested he’s just a tad bit uninformed.
“This individual may not be aware of the work that I did, particularly on creating a really strong derivatives framework, which I’m happy to talk to him about, but it was an anonymous source,” the senator said.
“…Not everybody would always know the hard work that goes into a writing a bill that’s going to create that transparency, oversight but keep it as efficient and competitive system so it will work.”
“And so, I feel very strong about the work that I did on that bill to make it a stronger bill, a better bill and better for New York at the end of the day so we have this vibrant world financial services industry at the center of New York.”
