Budget Extenders

…Have arrived.

Here’s the bill, and here’s the accompanying memo. The breakdown:

- $151 million in mental health mental hygiene.
- $176 million in human services.

Of note: Included are some $20 million worth of cuts proposed by the Senate Republicans, which, theoretically speaking, means they should be able to provide some “yes” votes come monday. There are no taxes or controversial revenue generators.

The state payroll is covered only through June 20. State Budget Director Bob Megna said a decision was made not to go a full week out because the administration is trying to conserve cash and push the process along.

According to Megna, (as per CapTon’s Kaitlyn Ross), the plan is that only people who need to get paid this week will receive checks.

The extender not only does not include the funds for next week’s paychecks, it also REMOVES the funds for this week’s checks (for prison gurds, nuses etc – those essential employees who work in institutions that must stay open even if the governor orders a shut down if his extender does notr pass). The date may have been changed from June 17 to June 21 in section 2 but the dollar amout is reduced by the institution payroll amount that was in last week’s extender:

The Democrats should reject the mental hygiene cuts. The system has been terribly underfunded for years.

Let Skelos pass it with Republican votes, so New Yorker cans decide if that is the kind of government they want to return to power.

It is a shame that the state has come to the brink of becoming a third class state where our education, health and human service gains long fought for, and what differentiated New York State from many others, will be gutted.
While the masses rally behind tax cuts, cutting state government, reducing teacher contracts, etc. the results of such actions will only serve to make New York a less desirable place to live. As younger residents move away, and those that can leave do also, we face a deterioration that will make New York feel like the states we used to make fun of.
It wont be pretty when the roads and bridges start to close, crime increases, NYC goes back to the war zone it was in the 60′s and 70′s, drug treatment programs close and addicts hit the streets, the state university system turns into a second class educational experience, hospitals and emergency rooms close and a general down turn in the quality of life persists. So all of that, coupled with less than nice weather most of the time- and we are in big trouble.
The only possible salvation is the coming to be of the Cuomo administration. Leadership we can trust and look forward to…..

Regressive, hits the lower classes much hard and will kill the consumer-driven end of the economy.

How about legalizing pot, prostitution, gambling and gay marriage instead?
