Welcome to the experiment we’re calling State of Politics! It’s great to see you all here.

Today marks a real milestone – both for me and for this blog.

It is, of course, SoP’s first day of life. So, that’s obvious.

As for me, I’m embarking on a new adventure: Trying to meld three media platforms – TV, on-line and print – into one seamless flow – a sort of trifecta of the digital age. (Oh yeah, and trying to master reading the teleprompter; but I’ll keep you all posted on that).

Here on SoP, we hope to maximize the resources of our statewide YNN/NY1 team to bring you near-real time political news from around New York in a critical election year. It’s a year that will impact you wherever you live, whether you’re in Queens or Syracuse (two areas with contested state Senate races, by the way).

And then, of course, there’s the statewide races: Two US Senate seats (an unusual occurrence in the same year; they’re usually staggered), the governor’s race (Will AG Andrew Cuomo ever announce? Will Carl Paladino actually get support at the state convention?), an incredibly crowded Democratic attorney general primary and state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s battle to keep the seat to which he ascended in 2007, thanks to a combination of Alan Hevesi’s Chauffergate and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s power.

Eventually, we will have clips of exclusive interviews from Capital Tonight, which I will soon start hosting (stay tuned for updates on that!) and dispatches from all over the Empire State. We will follow the news wherever it happens – be it Battery Park or Buffalo – and I’ll be right there with you.

Buckle up. It’s going to be a wild ride. I, for one, am really looking forward to it.
